BruceModeratorSignal Hound will be introducing a new capability for the Spike software at IMS2015. Visit us at booth 1442 during IMS2015 in Phoenix, from 19 May through 21 May. The booth will be staffed with Justin, our RF engineer, AJ, our programmer, and myself, Bruce, Signal Hound owner and CEO. We are adding Digital Modulation Analysis which will include constellation diagrams, EVM measurements, and symbol tables for modulation formats of QPSK, BPSK, 8PSK, π/4DQPSK, DQPSK, and QAM16. This is our first attempt at digital modulation analysis. We would like to know if you care about having this functionality. If so then what features would you consider essential for us to include? Be nice – we only have one programmer. Although, we are currently searching to add another talented C++ programmer to our team that is well versed in DSP and Microsoft Visual Studio.

I have a BB60C, which I absolutely love. I can say that my team would greatly benefit from having digital modulation analysis (especially DBPSK). I’m sure that if it functioned properly, the contractors we work with would be very interested in purchasing Signal Hound peripherals.
I’d be pleased to perform any beta testing of test software if you’d like.

AndrewModeratorHey everyone! Here is a sneak peak of what we have been working on since the beginning of the year. On the left we have the new interface to our upcoming vector signal generator (named the VSG25A) and on the right you can see the upcoming digital demodulation capabilities of the BB60C/A within the Spike software application. The VSG is transmitting a QPSK modulated signal at 890MHz and the BB60C is receiving the signal and triggering on a sync pattern. Both are expected late May.
The VSG25A is priced at $495 and the digital demodulation capabilities will be part of the next Spike software release.

AndrewModeratorπ/4DQPSK will be included in both the VSG25A and the digital demodulation software. The digital demodulation will be available only for the BB60 series at first, but we will be adding support for the SA series in the near future.

ParticipantBruce, loving the new 3.0.8 update of Spike with the Digital Demod analysis! This is frankly what I was waiting for. Do you think a future version could include C4FM (APCO P25) analysis? This is a hugely implemented voice standard and digital modulation method employed in both commercial and state Public Safety communications all over the world, and is ever-expanding and growing into the non-commercial/consumer market everyday. Would love to see it in a future version of Spike! 🙂

I set up a spreadsheet to convert EVM to BER for QAM modulation. works from M=2 to M=1024 very reliably. The file is attached.

Can I demodulate MSK(Minimum Shift Key) digital signal using BB60C spectrum analyser?
If no, please suggest any alternative things to demodulate my MSK signal using BB60C.
