I’ve too tried to run Spike in a virtual machine on my MacBook Pro. Not only was I having the same issue as you Richard, but, my SA44 would disconnect from the USB port. I could improve the performance by increasing memory allocated to windows, but, I only have so much memory available.
I gave up and am running it on a windows laptop now.
